Celebrating Mandela Day 2020
#ChangingLives #Shaping Futures
Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of former President Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.
What can we do on Mandela Day ?
No matter how small your action, Mandela Day is about changing the world for the better, just as Nelson Mandela did every day.
The Mandela Day Campaign message encourages people to use 67 minutes of their time to support a chosen charity or serve in their local community. The 67 minutes symbolically represent the number of years the former President fought for human rights and the abolition of apartheid.
This year, on Mandela Day, we released a short video highlighting how our College young men have in so many ways, reached out to support, giving to help others.

Today, we stand together as the College Community, to celebrate MandelaDay and honour the legacy of our former President who, through his unfailing humility and exceptional leadership, changed the lives of many South Africans and shaped our future as a nation;
Today, we stand together as a country, united in our determination to overcome the challenges that COVID-19 presents;
Today, we reach out to help others less fortunate than ourselves, knowing that even the smallest gesture can make a massive difference to someone’s life.
“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.” Nelson Mandela
