SUMMARY:Skonk Nicholson Rugby Festival - 28 March -1 April 2025
DESCRIPTION:2025 Skonk Nicolson U14 & U16 Festival \nMaritzburg College is proud to host the 2025 Skonk Nicholson Rugby Festival and to welcome 20 teams and their supporters to our campus. We sincerely hope that all who participate or spectate will enjoy all that is great in schoolboy sport\, viz. the camaraderie\, team-spirit\, passion\, commitment and sportsmanship. These were all noble ideals fostered in his rugby teams over 35 seasons by the late Mr Nicholson himself. \nUnder Skonk’s leadership\, College came to be one of the rugby powerhouses in South Africa\, producing 14 unbeaten First XVs and countless Natal and SA Schools’ players during his 35 seasons at the helm. Over the passage of years\, Skonk coached many players who played provincial and international rugby\, including at least 10 Natal flyhalves alone! \nOur event logo pays tribute to our beloved Nicholson Arch which stands nearby to the Kent Pavilion at College\, overlooking the school’s main rugby field\, Goldstone’s. Erected in 1982\, the year of Skonk’s retirement. It is a cherished tradition for each First XV player\, as he steams onto the pitch\, to reach up and touch the apex of the arch\, in mute tribute to College’s own ‘Mr Rugby’. \n  \nDate: 28 March – 1 April \n  \nPROGRAMME \nTEAM PHOTOS \nFixtures U14 &  U16 \nResults U14 &  U16 \n \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nImportant Contact: \nTournament Director: Liam Smorfitt\nsmorfittl@mcollege.co.za\n0844744838

SUMMARY:Jesse Kriel U11 & U13 Rugby Festival
DESCRIPTION:Maritzburg College is proud to announce we will host the inaugural Jesse Kriel U11/U13 rugby festival from 17-19 April. \n\nWe look forward to welcoming over 600 boys and staff from 18 schools from around the country to College.\n\n\n\n  \nJesse Kriel: A College Boy\, A Champion\, A Rugby Legend \nFrom the hallowed turf of Goldstone’s to the world’s greatest rugby stages\, Jesse Kriel’s journey is one of grit\, glory\, and commitment – a true embodiment of the Maritzburg College spirit. \nJesse Kriel (OC 2012) is a name that needs little introduction in South African rugby. As a proud product of Maritzburg College\, Jesse’s natural athleticism\, fierce determination\, and deep rugby intelligence were evident from the moment he first pulled on the Red\, Black and White jersey. It was here\, within these walls and on these fields\, that his foundation was laid – one built on tradition\, excellence\, and the relentless pursuit of greatness. \nAfter matriculating\, Jesse rose rapidly through the rugby ranks. He made his professional debut for the Vodacom Bulls in 2014 and\, within a year\, earned his Springbok cap – making his test debut against Australia in 2015. His breakout performance came just weeks later\, when he scored a spectacular solo try against the All Blacks in Johannesburg\, instantly etching his name into Springbok folklore. \nSince then\, Jesse has been a consistent force in the Springbok backline. A member of both the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cup squads\, Jesse helped South Africa secure back-to-back World Cup victories – a rare and historic achievement. His versatility as a centre and wing\, his physicality\, and his strategic understanding of the game have made him a critical asset to every team represented\, including stints in Japan’s competitive Top League. \nBeyond the accolades and achievements\, Jesse remains a proud Old Boy of Maritzburg College. He often speaks of the role the school played in shaping his values\, character\, and discipline – qualities that have carried him to the pinnacle of the sport. \nIt is only fitting that the school’s beloved u11 and u13 rugby festival\, formerly the Skonk Nicholson Junior Rugby Festival\, now bears the name of Jesse Kriel. In honouring him\, we not only celebrate a world-class athlete\, but also inspire the next generation of rugby stars – young boys chasing their dreams\, just as Jesse once did\, right here at College. \n  \n  \nJoin us on campus for some excellent schoolboy rugby and plenty of #RedBlackWhite spirit! \n\n\nThanks to our partners SuperSport Schools\, the games will be streamed from the app.\n\n\n\n\nFULL PROGRAMME\nFIXTURES\nRESULTS\n\nDay 1 – 17 April 2025 \n \n  \n  \n  \nDay 2 – 18 April \n \nDay 8 – 19 April \n \n\nTEAM PHOTOS
