Our 2020 Boarder Sleepover – Grade 7’s Experiencing #RedBlackWhite life
College Boarder 2020 Sleepover
8th February saw 135 Grade 7 boys arrive at College for our annual Boarder Sleepover – a chance to find out firsthand what being a College Boarder is all about.
The programme kicked off with the excitement of watching our 1st team waterpolo and basketball teams play Michaelhouse, before heading back to “check in” at Nathan and Shepstone houses where the boys would be spending the night.
After lunch it was time to change in costumes for a welcome swim in the pool, before heading down to Goldstones. Inclement weather meant all of our cricket fixtures for the day were cancelled, and we had to improvise for the afternoon’s entertainment.
One cricket cover, three bottles of dishwashing detergent and a hosepipe later…much fun was had duck diving down to Snows
A delicious, traditional supper in the Keith Guise-Brown Dining Hall was followed by a chance to learn the College shout in our historic Clark House quad, before cocoa was enjoyed along with and interaction with our 6th formers and prefects.
At bedtime, each Grade 7 found a chocolate bar and a welcome letter from one the College 2020 2nd formers sharing their recent experience in joining the #RedBlackWhite College BE family.
The next morning after breakfast, the group headed down to Barns to learn some rugby and cricket skills, play basketball, test out the gym equipment or try out the obstacle course, while parents were given a tour of the campus. Our Deputy Head of Boarding, Mr Ryan Kyle, together with Mr Drikus Hoffman, housemaster for Nathan House shared some of the College boarding ethos with parents before it was time to head home. Each visiting boy was congratulated and given a certificate by Deputy Head Prefect Thabo Mbatha before departing.
