Sharing Awareness about Social Awareness@College
Historic Meeting with College OCs
On Thursday, 25th June 2020, a number of College Old Boys from around South Africa and even internationally, met with the Headmaster and two Deputy Headmasters, the Chairperson of the SGB, members of the SAC (Social Awareness Council) and Senior School Leaders to discuss the current climate concerning discrimination in schools and College’s part in dealing with these issues.
It was an engaging 3 hour long (Zoom) meeting that included robust discussion, debate and dialogue. As a school, we are immensely proud of our Old Boys who have reached out to us to ensure that we are doing everything possible to make every boy feel that College is a safe space to learn and grow.
In the meeting, we discussed the various initiatives being undertaken by the Social Awareness Council and its programmes, the School’s Anti-discrimination Policy which has been launched recently, platforms for engagement with Old Boys and the introduction of a ‘Help you Heal’ initiative so that past learners can come back and engage with boys on their school experiences.
We recognise how important it is for learners to speak up before they leave school and this has been supported by the Old Boys. We will continue this engagement with our OC’s, as we know and value their insight in guiding the school in these initiatives/programmes.
Any OC who would like to participate in further discussions of this nature is welcome to contact Mrs Govender, Head of SAC – email@example.com – who will facilitate this.
