Why Maritzburg College?
Maritzburg College learners are challenged to excel, to show commitment, to be open-minded, to embrace and respect individuality and to explore a wide variety of interests, both in and outside of the classroom.
Our learners are challenged to take responsibility for their learning, to develop their minds to the fullest and to put their talents to good use. We endeavour to direct the potential of each boy and to assist him in developing and preparing himself for life after school.
Whether he plays for an A team or simply participates to stay fit, all boys benefit from an inclusive sporting structure, where both individual and team achievements are rewarded. Exercise, and the development of life skills and healthy lifelong habits, are as much a part of education as are academics.
Academically, College is one of the leading boys’ schools in the province, and we are proud of the consistently high Bachelor pass rate we achieve each year. In support of the school’s ethos of striving for excellence, the core academic objectives are underpinned by carefully planned and effective pastoral care and leadership development programmes. The latter programme forms an integral part of education at Maritzburg College, and all boys participate in camps and various other leadership activities on a regular basis.
College has four boarding houses, looked after by a committed staff who strive to create an environment that is caring and warmly supportive of the individual, whilst encouraging self-development and respect for others. We pride ourselves on offering an holistic education based on our core values of Honesty, Integrity, Courage, Self-Discipline, Commitment and Respect.

To be a College boy is to be a part of something much bigger than a school. College is a way of life and the friendships formed during the five years within these walls last a lifetime. A College boy is encouraged to be himself, to live by the core values of the school, to use his talents and creativity to make a difference in the world, all the while being a part of an institution that prides itself on its reputation of excellence.
