Opening Address at 1st Assembly
It is wonderful to welcome all boys back to school after what has been an extensive break. We are very happy to have them back on campus and we will strive to bring some normality back to their lives from a school perspective.
The return of all boarders went well and the Borver programme for all 2nd Form was a huge success. Certainly the academic programme should progress unhindered and we have arranged suitable non-contact activities for all boys to participate in over the next four weeks. Rest assured that all Covid protocols will be adhered to at all times. Boys have been informed that no mask means immediate school detention from 1410 – 1430 on the same day non-negotiable. We trust that this measure will ensure the importance of wearing the mask at all times unless eating, drinking or exercising.
At our first assembly, Rev Colin Moore spoke on the importance of courage for our new boys, and for the school – wisdom and guidance. He tasked us all to work to spread “good infections” striving to shine and bring light through our faith and service to others.
Mrs Dlamini, from the DoE, also spoke to the boys reminding them that College is a school held in high esteem by the department, and encouraging the boys to make the most of every opportunity on journey ahead, making the best of every situation and living out the core College values.
College has 260 [101 Boarders] new F2 and 18 new other boys through the forms which takes our overall total to 1336 boys. We also have 14 new staff both academic and support staff. In his address, Mr Luman extended a warm welcome to all the new staff and students.
In his opening message to the school, our Senior Deputy Head: Mr Ingo Talke highlighted three aspects:
- Let’s do this – Come on College, let’s do 2021 with passion and action.
- Aim higher – this year should not be your ceiling. College provides many opportunities to grow to go higher in your College career. Go higher than you’ve ever been.
- Fast and Furious – with lots of energy. Strive to become mentally healthy and emotionally intelligent adults. Be honest about how you feel Take some time out and check-in with yourself.
