Assembly 20 April: Happiness

Theme: Happiness

What does happiness mean?

Happiness is an emotional state characterized by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfilment. While happiness has many different definitions, it is often described as involving positive emotions and life satisfaction.

In simple terms happiness is a feeling of pleasure and positivity. When someone feels good, proud, excited, relieved or satisfied about something, that person is said to be “happy”. Feeling happy may help people to relax and to smile. Happiness is considered the opposite of Sadness.

Key question: Is happiness a choice?

Yes! Very much so.  Many happy people realize happiness is a choice and it is up to them to intentionally choose it every single day. Happy people are not held hostage by their circumstances and they do not seek happiness in people or material possessions. Fully experiencing happiness still requires a conscious decision every day.

Key question: How do I choose happiness?

Here are ten ways to choose happiness:

  1. Choose to be the best YOU can be.
  2. Choose to be around the right people.
  3. Choose to focus on what you have, not on what you have not got.
  4. Choose a good attitude.
  5. Choose to smile more often.
  6. Choose to take care of your body.
  7. Choose
  8. Choose to help others when you’re able to.
  9. Choose to let go when you know you should.
  10. Choose to embrace the next step in your life.

Quote: “” When you love what you have, you have everything you need. If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy. … The only thing that will make you happy is being happy with who you are.””

This week we celebrate Happiness Week on campus.

A big thank you to Mrs Thaver, and all the staff and boys who are assisting in and /or participating the various activities

GENERAL

Behaviour

Four boys have recently made poor decisions and have had to face the consequences of their actions viz suspensions, removal from the BE and disciplinary hearings. Deliberate damage to property is a serious offence as is filming on your phone and distributing it on social media; consuming drugs and testing positive is a serious offence; graffiti on walls in toilets etc is a serious offence.

I appeal to you all to think twice before you act – there are consequences; the simple law of CAUSE and EFFECT!  Maintain focus and abide by the rules during the last week of term so that you and your families can enjoy a peaceful, enjoyable holiday break together.

SPORT

All winter sport commenced last week and culminated with trials on Saturday. Please ensure that you also abide by the sport regulations and rules i.e. wear the right sport uniform to practice and matches, be punctual and play by the rules
