IBSC AFRICA Virtual Conference June 2021
The International Boys’ Schools Coalition Virtual Conference will be held on 9, 15, 17 and 23 June. This event provides our staff with the opportunity to engage with boys’ educators worldwide during four 90-minute sessions, each hosted on a different day by an IBSC region. The IBSC Africa Region is host for the session on 15 June.
Maritzburg College’s Nguni Society Gumboot Dance is the main feature for a video produced by College for the Conference and forms part of the opening ceremony.
Congratulations to the boys and staff who assisted with the dance and the production of the video.

Covid-19 Screening & School Attendance
With the move to Level 2, please note that there have been no changes to the regulations to the attendance of boys at school in relation to the Covid-19 protocols outlined by the Department of Basic Education and Department of Health.
- No boy may come to school with any Covid-19 symptoms. (see below)
- Any boy who has a household member awaiting a Covid-19 test result may not come to school.
- Any boy who has a household member confirmed as positive for Covid-19 may not come to school.
- Any boy awaiting their own Covid-19 test result may not come to school.
- All colds and flu symptoms must be managed through a doctor with a doctor’s certificate for return to school.
- Where Covid-19 is present in the household – it needs to be reported to the school and a risk assessment needs to be done by the school with the parents. A boy cannot automatically return to school until this is done.
Whilst we appreciate these are difficult challenges to negotiate, we urge our community to assist the school in following the regulations prescribed.
We have instances where boys are lying to pass through screening in the morning and where boys are being sent to school knowingly contravening the regulations.
A reminder that Covid-19 symptoms as per the NICD are:
A fever above 38°, dry cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, and loss of taste or smell.)
Stay Safe
