Assembly 10 August: Women’s Month

THEME OF THE WEEK: WOMEN’s WEEK

“She is more precious than jewels and nothing you desire can compare with her.”

Women are more valuable than some of the most precious items on earth, therefore we need to love, care and cherish them at all times and they will return that love. – Proverbs 3: v 15

A prayer for the Women of College

Dear Lord. Thank you for the women in our lives for all that they do for us on a daily basis. We are very blessed and eternally grateful. May you continue to bless them in our lives and may we always be grateful to them.
Amen

MESSAGE ON WOMEN’S WEEK:

Monday 9th August was National Women’s Day and our theme for the week is also women as August is Women’s Month in South Africa

Thought for the Week:

“She is water. Strong enough to drown you, soft enough to cleanse you, and deep enough to save you.” ~ Unknown

During Women’s Month in August every year, our country pays tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. This year we celebrate Women’s Month under the theme: “Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights for an Equal Future”.  The concept of Generation Equality is a global campaign and links South Africa to global efforts to achieve gender equality by 2030.

What can we, as the College community do?

We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality.
We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements.
We can take the time to reflect on and celebrate the progress made in our country in support of Women.
We can pay tribute to the many unsung heroines in our communities, who lead by their example – with courage, integrity, dignity and kindness.
Today – we  acknowledge all Women of College who serve as educators, guardians, caregivers and role models for our boys.

Important Academic and Sporting Updates have been provided under the relevant new sections. Please ensure you read these.

COVID
We have had a few incidents recently, where parents and boys have not been honest about their specific health situation i.e. a parent has tested positive and the son has NOT isolated and come to school.

I need to issue a warning directly from the DBE MOE Office. If boys or parents do so, they are both liable to be charged under the Covid regulations as they are placing hundreds of other people’ s lives in danger. We already know of at least two specific cases in our school and the Department is following up on those.

You are all very aware of what is required. If there is a problem, boys can write tests at home or in isolation! Please take this as a first and final warning: FOLLOW THE COVID PROTOCOLS to the letter. If you or your parents are uncertain, ASK. Furthermore, do not spread rumours about COVID cases. We cannot inform the whole College community if someone tests positive. That information is confidential. We report all our cases daily as well as those in isolation to the DBE and DOH.

The school has always and will continue to adhere without deviation to the regulations and procedures, as we have done from Day 1 last year.

In closing, wear your masks, unless eating or drinking, wash your hands and sanitise , maintain social distancing at ALL times and finally DO NOT SOCIALISE over weekends where the regulations are compromised. There will be plenty of time for that later in the year

There are times in the day, like some sport activities and at times in the boarding establishment where not wearing masks is permitted. But these are strictly monitored and you must follow the instructions of the staff and the rules set out for these times. Do not use this as an excuse for not wearing a mask. The aim of all our school activities is to reduce the time of any potential transmission etc.

Your focus must be to preserve your and your peer’s health as well as the staff and your family. We have had numerous staff and parents who have had close family members pass away. PLEASE ABIDE WITHOUT EXCEPTION and hold your parents to task as well. Ask them also to get vaccinated if they have not yet done so– it will save their lives. Those of you 18 and above should consider doing so as well when it becomes available in September.
