From the Senior Deputy Headmaster: Mr I Talke

How many masks are you wearing?

Wearing a full Covid regulated mask means you are a caring person, to yourself and to others.

However, some of us may also be wearing an invisible mask over our eyes. These masks are perhaps the result of all the negative aspects that have affected our lives over recent weeks and months. They are preventing us from really seeing the world around us, and from responding positively to every opportunity College offers, our education and interactions.

I encourage you to take off these masks and open your eyes to see every day in a fresh new light; to appreciate the wealth of opportunities and possibilities that await, to recognise and value what your mom and dad and all the people in your lives do for you,  and what College offers you.

Actively seek the opportunities around you. Embrace your education positively. Take the time in class to work hard and make to most of your education. Commitment is one of our core values.  Re-commit yourself to all aspects of College life. We are a school that commits. There is a saying “College boys like it because it is tough…”

Perhaps you have a mask over your brain. There is another symptom of Covid times that is slowly taking hold of us and that we should get rid of immediately. It is called Covid laziness. This is not medical condition but rather how we are allowing ourselves to use Covid as an excuse for everything. For some of us, there may be a reluctance to return to the normal routine. This can develop into not being willing to commit to our tasks any more.

Let’s remember and focus on all the unique things that makes College the special place it is. Take off the masks over your eyes that is preventing you seeing the positive. Take off the mask over your brain that is preventing you from moving forward with energy and purpose.

Let us long for and seek the time when we can again shout the Jimeloyo cry on Goldstone’s.

Let us never forget what being a true College boy and staff member means…
