THEME OF THE WEEK: HERITAGE DAY
From Scripture:
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” Psalm 127:3
“For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.” Psalm 61:5
“Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.” Psalm 119:111
A prayer
Mr Talke read the Lord’s prayer in Afrikaans followed by Mr Sparrow who sang the Lord’s prayer in Latin.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen.
The focus of this assembly is our heritage
“Maintaining one’s culture, values and traditions is beyond price.’ Getano Lui
On Friday, we have a public holiday where we acknowledge Heritage Day:
What is Heritage Day?
Heritage Day is a national holiday where all South Africans celebrate their cultural heritage and embrace the diverse traditions and values that contribute to our “rainbow nation”. South Africans celebrate Heritage Day by remembering the heritage of the many cultures that make up the population of South Africa, with various events staged throughout the country to commemorate this day. It is the day to celebrate the contribution of all South Africans to the building of South Africa.
At College, we are truly blessed to have such a diverse community with so many different cultures. Let us always remember to celebrate and appreciate our diverse school.
In the words of Madiba: “Our rich and varied cultural heritage has the profound power to help build our nation.”
From a religious point of view on the topic of heritage, the most important thing that parents can give their children and grandchildren is a godly heritage. This is by taking spiritual concern, and by picturing to their children and grandchildren their hopes for their future in the Lord. The most important heritage that can be handed down to children and grandchildren is faith in the promises of God.
