Assembly 27 September: End of Term 3

A large number of boys are away this week on camps, so I wish to focus on our seniors at this stage. The 6th form have just completed a grueling Trial Exam assessment and our 5th formers are coming to terms with taking over the leadership reigns for 2022.

THEME OF THE WEEK: WELLNESS

“Recovery isn’t just about physical restoration. It’s also about feeling inspired and motivated, your mind brimming with ideas and enthusiasm.” ~ Jennifer Mulder

The 6th form are probably all looking forward to a well–earned break but also their Leaver’s Dinner and Dance on Friday, as well as coming to terms with maybe one or two disappointments from the Trial Examinations.

A Prayer for College

I would like to share with you this prayer written by Linda E Knight, as God has a wonderful way of speaking to us just when we need it.

God is your stronghold,
And with Him as your guide
You need never be afraid.
No circumstances can block His love.
No grief is too hard for Him to bear.
No task is too difficult for Him to complete.
When what you are feeling is simply too deep for words
And nothing anyone does or says
Can provide you with the relief you need.
God understands!
He is your provider – Today, tomorrow and always.
And He loves you.
Cast all of your cares on Him … and believe.”

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

F2 – F4 LEADERSHIP CAMPS

A sincere vote of thanks to Mr Sparrow and all the staff who are away supporting the three leadership camps during the course of this week.  I trust that the boys will enjoy the experience and benefit from it as well.

REFLECTION ON THE TERM

This has been another very disruptive term, but thankfully many of you have managed to enjoy parts of what College is all about – the holistic College experience; cultural events in the OCC and Victoria Hall; sport on Papes, Goldstones , the Dusi and AB Jackson; our interhouse competition etc

What is now of the utmost importance, is that you reflect objectively on your academic progress and reassess your goals for the end of the year’s final examinations. The 6th Form have nine academic school days before study leave, during which a Matric Intervention Remediation programme  will be available for boys who have faired poorly in subjects ; the rest of you have 17 school days.

If you are struggling in any one area, please ensure that you follow up by asking for additional help from your teachers. You also need to be proactive and be prepared to do some hard work. Nothing comes easily.

We will hit the ground running at the start of next term and you cannot afford to take a week to get back into things. You need to start with your academic focus and endeavour from Day 1, leading from the front in your academics and fulfilling all your co-curricular commitments as well.

Please ensure that your grooming is up to scratch as far as haircuts shaving and uniform is concerned for the start of term.
