Assembly 24 January 2022

Theme of the week is College Culture & Character

The following is an extract from the College Credo which, apart from the 2nd  Form and new boys, all our boys have signed.

To live out the CORE traditions

  • A College boy is loyal to his family, friends, school, community and country.
  • A College boy is honest and tells the truth.
  • A College boy thinks of others first.
  • A College boy always gives of his best and never gives up.
  • A College boy is respectful to and of others – One also needs to respect oneself in the first instance to then treat others with respect
  • A College boy always owns up – where boys are not blaming others and ultimately taking responsibility for their actions
  • A College boy is always immaculately turned out and displays good manners at all times.

Mr Andrew Clayton, President of the Maritzburg College Old Boys’ Association (MCOBA), who celebrated 125 years on Saturday, addressed the boys on perceptions around traditions from the OCs perspective. He along with five other OCS addressed the BE boys and staff last Wednesday evening.

Discipline update

As has been communicated to the school, 7 prefects and 2 house leaders have been suspended due to an act of serious misconduct. They face a disciplinary hearing and the independent panel will decide on appropriate form of sanction /punishment.

All the boys were once again reminded of the importance in always doing THE RIGHT THING at all times
