Assembly 7 February 2022

Theme: Accountability [Taking Ownership]

This theme was also discussed in the first mentor lesson of the week on Wednesday.

Thought for the Week

“You either walk inside your story and own it or you stand outside your story and hustle for your worthiness. ~ Anon

From the Bible

So then each of us shall give account of himself to God – Romans 14:12

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. – Hebrews 4:13

They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. – 1 Peter 4:5

Prayer

Dear Lord, we ask that you will at all times guide us in our development into good men to be accountable for our actions and that we may always take sensible and sound decisions

School prayer

Taking Ownership and Being Accountable

Biblical accountability begins with taking responsibility for one’s own actions and making a conscious choice of allowing God and others to help in accomplishing what is right.
Accountability keeps the pressure on to do the right thing at all times

This video on Taking Ownership was shared with the boys

Why is accountability so important?

Accountability eliminates the time and effort you spend on distracting activities and other unproductive behaviour.
When you make people accountable for their actions, you’re effectively teaching them to value their work.
When done right, accountability can increase one’s skills and confidence.

How can accountability be applied in College context?

Apart from the religious guidelines already mentioned, we have our own College Core Values,

COMMITMENT – [IN ALL THAT YOU DO]
COURAGE – [PHYSICAL & MORAL]
HONESTY – [STARTS WITH SELF – ‘THE MAN IN THE MIRROR’]
INTEGRITY – [DO THE RIGHT THING ALL THE TIME]
RESPECT – [FOR SELF AND ALL OTHERS]
SELF-DISCIPLINE – [IN ALL THAT YOU DO]

The boys were reminded of the College Credo and to live out our Core Traditions

A College boy is

  • LOYAL
  • HONEST
  • SELFLESS [Servant leadership]
  • DETERMINED & RESILIENT
  • RESPECTFUL
  • WELL GROOMED
  • GOOD MANNERS

These are here to guide us and help us to take ownership i.e. to be accountable for all that we do.

Due to inclement weather most sporting fixtures were cancelled on Friday and Saturday; however we did have waterpolo fixtures with Glenwood and squash earlier in the week as well as tennis/
