The #RedBlackWhite canoeists put in some final training and secured podium places at the Inter-schools K1 Marathon, and the senior squash team had good results at the St Andrew Squash Festival in Bloemfontein. There were also top positions for the Cross Country boys taking part in the Trevi Track Attack Trail Run.

Basketball

There were some hard fought and close matches on the basketball courts as College took on Hilton College. A summary of results saw College play 19 matches, winning 10 and losing 9.

1st team report – Zinhle Cele

On Saturday, Maritzburg College basketball travelled to Hilton College. It was the first fixture this season that the boys played away from home. The transition from playing at home seemed to be a struggle for the boys College’s first team started on a hot winning streak from the past few games. With multiple quick-fire baskets from C. Henman, College gained the lead early on and went into half time with what looked like a comfortable cushion. In the second half however, College seemed to lose momentum and Hilton began to close the gap. Despite a stellar performance from T Sithole, who dropped two consecutive three-pointers to boost moral and increase College’s chances of walking away victorious, Hilton College just came back too strong in the second half. In the end, College went down narrowly by 9 points. C Henman must still be commended on adding 24 points to his team’s overall score. It’s back to the drawing board for the 1st team but they are grateful to know all of the things they need to work on and changes they need to make ahead of next week’s inaugural Maritzburg College Basketball Tournament.
