Reunion 2022: What does it mean for College?

The curtain has closed on Reunion 2022 – the first at College for three years.

In as much as this is an event where the school hosts its Old Collegians back to the campus, with the aim of making their return visit as memorable and special as possible, it is also an important event for the school.

What does Reunion mean for the current College boys, parents and staff?

  • It’s an opportunity to showcase who we are today;
  • It’s a time to be proud of being a College boy, parent, or staff member and being a part of what the Red Black White stands for;
  • It’s a time to feel a deep gratitude towards those who have gone before, and for what they have done, and given to this school, for the foundation they have laid;
  • It’s a time to reflect in awe on the proud and great history of our school

For our boys especially;

  • It’s a time to don your College shirt, run out onto the sports field and play your heart out for your school;
  • It’s a time to stand on Basher Ridge among hundreds of your brothers and shout with everything you can give;
  • It’s a time to reunite with your older brothers, to share stories and relive experiences;
  • It’s a time to reignite the passion and define your RedBlackWhite.

For our boys, Reunion 2022 had many of the same elements of the past and also some new ones. A deeply moving and meaningful assembly with the added excitement of meeting famous OC Jesse Kriel, taking OCs on tours of the campus, performing in the choir and band, standing on Basher Ridge as part of an intricate synchronised blazer display of red, black and white, standing with arms wrapped around your brothers and shouting til your voice is hoarse, and of course, playing your heart out in front of crowds of thousands.

Reunion reminds all of us that we are just a small part of a very big, strong and proud College community. For just a few years, we have the privilege of being able to make our mark and actively contribute to the College of today.

But we will forever be able to return and reconnect with our home and our brothers at Maritzburg College…
