Maritzburg College welcomes three new Subject Head promotions this term.
These are all current members of staff; Mrs Liesl Campher takes on the role of Subject Head: Accounting, Mr Chris Nevay is the new Subject Head: History, and Mr Alan McGuigan is the new Subject Head: Physical Education.
We asked all three staff members what prompted their application for these positions:
“The ability to change lives on a daily basis is what gets me going – I hope to bring energy and enthusiasm to my classes” said Mr Nevay. His aim is to get his students to really enjoy the subject, to motivate the teachers, and to deal with administration issues, so that they can get on and teach.
Mrs Campher describes herself as a mother, educator and a lover of a good cup of coffee and a Nicholas Sparks book! She is also very goal oriented, and says she applied for this position with the aim of making it one of the best departments in South Africa! “My goals include upskilling educators to be the best, keeping up to date with the latest trends in the financial world, establishing a department of excellence, producing innovative young accountants, and focusing on the quality of the pass rate” said Mrs Campher.
Mr McGuigan is an OC from 2007 and joined the College staff team at the beginning of this year. An avid sports’ enthusiast with a passion for physical education, he excels in his chosen sport of squash, and is three-time National Doubles Champion and has played singles squash at provincial level for the last 15 years. In taking on this role, Mr McGuigan said “My aim is to foster a passion amongst all pupils for leading an active lifestyle and getting involved in physical activities, while exposing them to the wide variety of different sporting codes that College offers.”
We wish Mrs Campher, Mr Nevay, and Mr McGuigan all the best in their new positions!
