As a parent of Maritzburg College, we would like to appeal to you to get more involved and engaged in our school. One way to do this is to join our Goldstones Club – the “home” for all current and past parents. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and socialise with other parents, and to get more actively involved with College.
Our Goldstones Club serves our #RedBlackWhite family in many ways – not least playing an integral role in supporting the recent Reunion weekend celebrations on our campus…
We are so grateful to the committed team of Goldstones Club parents who worked hard on Reunion Day to ensure that the thousands of visitors, including OCs, enjoyed good food, not to mention getting a traditional Zarm or two, while enjoying the rugby and hockey. Zarms were prepared on the Friday, with teams of mums toasting these to sell. In addition, as is College tradition, cakes and other eats were generously kindly provided by parents and served with free tea and coffee during the day.
Inside the Kent Pavilion, our Coffee Shop, managed by Sean Thornton-Dibb and his wife Janine had a team of College boys, working as baristas, in 2 hour shifts throughout the day serving delicious hot and cold drinks. This initiative not only provided the boys with an added trade, it was also well received with very positive comments from those that visited.
Anticipating the crowds, the Club set up an additional fast food outlet under the guidance of Richard and Tam Quin and Wynne Smith which served prego steak and chicken fillet rolls, and pulled pork salad, and later into the evening after the games, also served butter chicken.
Thanks to the Club’s Andrew Pratt, a bar facility was set up on Goldstone, which provide an great place to relax and chat after the 1st XV game had ended
