THEME OF THE WEEK: SERVICE & WOMENS WEEK
From Scripture:
“She is more precious than jewels and nothing you desire can compare with her.” – Proverbs 3: v 15
Women are more valuable than some of the most precious items on earth, therefore we need to love, care and cherish them at all times and they will return that love.
A Prayer:
Dear Lord. Thank you for the women in our lives for all that they do for us on a daily basis . We are very blessed and eternally grateful. May you continue to bless them in our lives and may we always be grateful to them Amen
Quote:
“She is water. Strong enough to drown you, soft enough to cleanse you, and deep enough to save you.” ~ Unknown
Every very year, on 9th August, our country marks Women’s Day, where we pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. 2022 marks the 66th anniversary since the march.
This year we celebrate Women’s Month under the theme: “Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Resilience!” This is a call to action to all of society, government and partners to take tangible steps forward in responding to the most persistent challenges affecting the lives of women and girls.
The National Women’s Month programme is based on the ongoing interventions across the work of government, civil society and the private sector within the context of the national priorities outlined by government.
Women’s Month allows us to gauge how far we have come in transforming society, particularly the transformation of unequal power relations between women and men, while also focusing on and addressing gender oppression, patriarchy, sexism, racism, ageism, structural oppression, and creating a conducive environment which enables women to take control of their lives.
What can we, as the College community, do?
- We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality.
- We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements.
- We can take the time to reflect on and celebrate the progress made in our country in support of women.
- We can pay tribute to the many unsung heroines in our communities, who lead by their example – with courage, integrity, dignity and kindness.
Today – we acknowledge all women of College who serve as educators, guardians, caregivers and role models for our boys.
Over the next few weeks we will be sharing videos celebrating the women of College on our social media platforms.

Music Success
Our talented #RedBlackWhite choir recently took part in the national finals of the AKTV Applous competition.
Securing another Gold Medal, and an overall result of 80.77%, they also were the winners of the non-Afrikaans speaking boys choir merit category. Their performance was outstanding and much enjoyed by the audience! After the performance, the boys celebrated in true College style.
Congratulations to our boys and to Mrs Joni Stickell, Mr Simon Stickells, and Mr Jacques Heyns.
Afrikaans Society Awards
Maritzburg College’s Afrikaans Society boys together with Epworth participated in the ATKV Tienertoneel recently. The production featured the story of a group of friends who, after writing matric, go on holiday together for a while. Their various personalities clash and a prank leads to serious consequences…
Finishing an excellent 3rd in KZN the school also received four Silver and 15 Bronze awards:
The boys also took part in the FAK Allegretto Fees held on 25 July, winning three Silver and eight Bronze awards
