Assembly – 7 August

THEME OF THE WEEK:  ACKNOWLEDGING THE WOMEN IN OUR LIVES

From Scripture:

“She is more precious than jewels and nothing you desire can compare with her.”- Proverbs 3: v 15

Women are more valuable than some of the most precious items on earth, therefore we need to love, care and cherish them at all times and they will return that love.

A prayer:

Dear Lord. Thank you for the women in our lives for all that they do for us on a daily basis . We are very blessed and eternally grateful. May you continue to bless them in our lives and may we always be grateful to them.

Amen

Thought for the Week:

“She is water. Strong enough to drown you, soft enough to cleanse you, and deep enough to save you.” ~ Unknown

Every very year, on 9th August, our country marks Women’s Day and Women’s Month, where we pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. 2022 marks the 66th anniversary since the march.

This year we celebrate Women’s Month under the theme:  Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.

Women’s Month allows us to gauge how far we have come in transforming society, particularly the transformation of unequal power relations between women and men. Furthermore, there is a focus   on gender oppression, sexism, racism, and creating a conducive environment which enables women to take control of their lives.

What can we as the men of College community do?

  • We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality.
  • We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements.
  • We can take the time to reflect on and celebrate the progress made in our country in support of women.
  • We can pay tribute to the many unsung heroines in our communities, who lead by their example – with courage, integrity, dignity and kindness.

Today – we acknowledge all the women of College who serve as educators, guardians, caregivers and role models for our boys. Thank you for all that you do for us!

Women’s Day Speech
