Maritzburg College Prize-giving 2023

On Maritzburg College’s last day of the academic year, it was fitting to celebrate exceptional academic excellence at our annual Prize Giving, which recognises the achievements of our Form 2 to Form 5 boys.

College was honoured to welcome back Dr Jared Robinson, OC and Class Valedictorian, 2017, as the guest speaker. A young man of exceptional talent, in his matric year, Dr Robinson was also deputy head prefect, swimming captain, chairman of speaker’s circle, and held the position of senior prefect (head of dayboys). His route through College was not an easy one, but he worked hard, giving his all to win over his peers’ respect. His achievements and success continued after matriculating when he went on to study medicine. Dr Robinson qualified with distinctions in 10 subjects and was ranked first overall with the highest GPA in the University’s recorded history. He has a keen interest in the surgical field and hopes to merge and blend his love for research and surgery with medical technology and artificial intelligence through the company he co-founded with another Old Collegian. The company, Attison Global, is now the sole and premiere medical Artificial Intelligence provider to the leading and largest plastic surgery and medical aesthetic hospital in the Indian Ocean. In Dr Robinson’s inspiring and very personal message to the boys, he encouraged them to give their all, and to work as hard as they can to make their dream come true. “Hard work and perseverance can overcome any obstacle. It’s how you choose to respond to life’s defining moments that matters – they will break you or make you.”

L-R Mrs Jeanette Finnie (Deputy Head: Academics), Dr Jared Robinson, Dr Chris Luman (Headmaster)
