Assembly 12 February 2024 – Theme: SUCCESS

THEME OF THE WEEK: SUCCESS

ASSEMBLY 12 February 2024

From Scripture

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” – Psalm 1: 1-3

A prayer

‘‘Dear Lord, through your guidance and support our goals and dreams can be achieved. Today we acknowledge our sportsmen and cultural boys who have gained significant levels of success. We thank you for enabling them to achieve.’

THEME: SUCCESS

Over the last three weeks we have focussed on EMPATHY, GOALS and GRIT. Today, and this week we focussing on how to achieve SUCCESS.

According to Antoine de Saint-Exupery, ‘A goal without a plan is just a wish.’ We need to plan to succeed in all that we do. Further to this point, former British PM, Benjamin Disraeli commented that “The secret of success is consistency of purpose.” This is a very pertinent point. We need to be consistent in our effort throughout to realise our goals following the plan.

‘Success’

The road to Success is not straight,
There is a curve called Failure,
a loop called Confusion,
speed bumps called Friends,
red lights called Enemies, and
caution lights called Family
But if you have a spare called Determination,
an engine called Perseverance,
insurance called Faith, and
a driver called Jesus,
you will make it to a place called Success!!

It is important that we refocus on what are the key elements to the secret of success

EIGHT SECRETS OF SUCCESS:

  1. PASSION – be passionate about what you do
  2. WORK- all hard work – nothing comes easy
  3. FOCUS – on ONE thing at a time e.g. academic success
  4. PUSH – extend yourself physically, mentally
  5. IDEAS – be curious, ask questions, observe… extend yourself
  6. IMPROVE – strive to be better than you were before
  7. SERVE – help others
  8. PERSIST – see things through to the end – don’t give up!

One of your immediate tasks is stay on top of your academic programme and do not fall behind. If  you are struggling in a particular subject please seek the advice and support of your teachers. It is essential that you start organising yourself now, and learn to practice good and sound work ethics. Do additional work on the subjects in which you are either behind where you should be, or are struggling. There are NO short cuts to success, rather hard, focussed work followed through with determination, persistence, and the desire and will to improve in order to  reach your goals. The same applies to your co-curricular activities. Practise and hone your skills- put in that additional effort. Your teachers and coaches will help you on your path to obtain the most success as possible.

I wish you all a very good week.
