Overview Sporting Achievements

College’s athletes continued their outstanding form winning the aQuelle Athletics series overall and producing excellent results. The week ended College’s summer sport fixtures which included basketball, water polo and cricket against Kearsney. The College U14A basketball team did very well at the Jeppe Festival winning 10 of their 14 matches.  With boys also competing in debating, squash, canoeing and golf, it was another busy sporting week for Maritzburg College.

 

Basketball

College won 12 of their 22 basketball matches against Kearsney with the 1st team completing an outstanding unbeaten season winning 63-56.

College’s athletes once again produced an outstanding set of results at the 5th aQuelle series, finishing 1st again and were awarded the trophy for winning the overall series for 2024.

Twenty-one Maritzburg College athletes took part in the KZN Athletics Championships. College won six Gold, six Silver and five Bronze medals and was placed 7th overall for Clubs in KZN.

College senior squash team took on a combined St Charles/St Johns side, winning convincingly 13 – 1 in matches.

 

 

Canoeing

College’s canoeists partnered with the talented Epworth girls for the Mixed Doubles Interschools race over the weekend from Lions River to Midmar Dam.

The Maritzburg College MTB cyclists took part in the Cascades MTB Provincial XCO event 1 over the weekend, posting very good results and placing in the top10 in their age categories.

College’s tennis team took on Riverwood this week, winning their matches 12-0.

Congratulations to L Puddu who was part of the U15 Midlands team that finished 2nd in the inter district trials over the weekend.

 

Table Tennis

College took part in the Table Tennis A and B league events, winning 36 of their 47 matches in the A league and 33 of 50 matches in the B league.
