Sporting Results: 18 May

Overview Sporting Achievements

The past weekend was a free one for many of our sporting teams following Reunion; however, there was canoeing, cross country, cycling, debating, soccer and volleyball action.

 

Canoeing

Two of College’s canoeist competed In the Dudley Pringle Marathon Practise race over the weekend winning both their age categories:

U16
K Vogt 1st and 3rd overall

U18
J JvRensburg 1st  and 10th overall

 

On Sunday the boys also competed in the Duc winter reef surfski series

U18
Keegan Vogt 1st U18, 1st U16, 3rd K1 overall
Luke O’Connor 6th

U16
Josh Worthmann 2nd

 

Cross Country

Twenty-four senior boys and eight junior boys competed in the 4th Cross Country league race held at Grace College. With three boys in the top 10 in the senior category, the Maritzburg College team finished in 2nd place. Four of the College juniors secured top 10 places and the junior team finished 1st overall.

Cycling

Well done to the five Maritzburg College riders who raced at the KZN champs held at Cascades on a world class XCO track.

Soccer

Maritzburg College’s 1st team took on Linpark in what was a repeat of last year’s League Final game. Linpark defended with determination and the half-time score stood at 0-0. College’s sustained pressure paid dividends in the second half and they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners. This means that College’s 1st team have now qualified for the League Final, with a game to spare, which they play on Thursday versus Carter on Barns’ at 4pm.

There were also very good results for the lower teams from the mid-week fixtures:
U14A vs St Nicholas won 9-0
U15A vs St Nicholas won 4-3
U16A vs Alex won 2-1
2nds vs Carter 1sts lost 3-0
1sts vs Linpark won 2-0

 

Volleyball

Congratulations to the Maritzburg College’s volleyball teams who competed over the weekend winning all three of their fixtures.
