Dedication Assembly – Start of Term 3 – 9 July

A very warm welcome back to all of you and especially to all the new staff and boys who join us today. I trust that everyone managed to have a break to relax and spend time with family and friends, and that you are all looking forward to Term 3

TERM DEDICATION
Mr Maistry gave an inspiring address to the boys and staff on Strength of Character and Moving Forward. His message focused on the need for keep moving forward, and he highlighted five important character traits needed to achieve your goals; Courage Resilience, Self-Belief, a strong Work Ethic and a Commitment to a Higher Purpose.

He summarized with a well-known quote from Martin Luther King Jr: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward

THEME FOR THE WEEK: STRENGTH OF CHARACTER

QUOTE: “It is the ability to carry on when it feels like the whole world is against you; to stand up and face your fears, even when they seem insurmountable and most importantly the ability to keep moving forward.” – ~ Unknown

AFFIES Annual Exchange – Playing to our potential and having self -belief

This Friday, approximately 750 boys and 50 staff will arrive for the annual sporting and cultural Affies exchange, which is one of our most valued and important fixtures of the year, dating back to 1996. Included in the exchange are rugby, hockey, golf, chess, squash, tennis, table tennis, X-country, and mountain biking, as well as the added cultural dimension with a joint musical concert on Friday evening.

We as a school are indeed very fortunate to experience such a fixture, and a huge amount of work and preparation goes in behind the scenes. May I ask that you are, at all times, polite, respectful, helpful and that your uniform, appearance and behaviour is superb. We frequently receive compliments about our College boys’ behaviour and performance on the field and there are the very rare occasions that someone lets themselves and the school down. Please don’t make this exchange one of these.

May I also remind you to take PRIDE in who you are and who you represent both on and off the field of play. These fixtures in Term 3 are our test matches. Continue to strive to raise the bar of performance as we measure ourselves against the best schools in the country! What matters is commitment, pride, courage and strength of character, as well as your ability and that of your team mates and ultimately your alma mater College.

“IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN, YOU WILL SUCCEED. IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN’T, YOU WON’T”. It’s all about SELF BELIEF”.

You need to believe that you can and give nothing less than 100% for the RED, BLACK AND WHITE. I want every College boy to be able to look in the mirror after the game and say with complete honesty and conviction “I gave 100% for my team and College. I am proud of my performance”’

May you all play to your full potential and raise the bar against Affies.
