1st team report (Nic Haswell, MIC Soccer)

On Friday College played in the final of the Cowie Cup, which is the KZN Under 19 Knockout Cup versus Port Shepstone. The tournament started in July with 32 schools participating. College produced the following results en route to the final:

vs Glenwood, won 3-0
vs Kloof, won 4-0
Quarter Final vs Carter, won 4-2
Semi-Final vs Westville, won 1-0

The final versus Port Shepstone started as a tense affair, with College dominating possession but were unable to unlock a resolute Port Shepstone defence. Just as it started to look as though the final would head towards penalties, College increased their attacking intensity, and this produced two goals in the last ten minutes, from Mazithi Qasha and Philasande Khuzwayo, to seal the deal and see College crowned the Cup Champions for 2024.

Team Red, with Kayden Searle, Daniel Janneker, Cole Baxter and Luvuyo Kubheka, won the 6-hour 4-man school team race with 27 laps of 5.17km. Team Black, with Ewan McAllister, Brynn Fourie, Kaden Leonard and Caden Wood, placed second in the 6-hour 4-man school team race completing 25 laps of 5.17km. Team White (a mixed parents and staff team), were hot on the heels of the youngsters and gave a fantastic account of the “ballies”!

The highlight of the event was partnering with the Hero777 Team who rode the 24-hour race; Billy Macleod, KG Johan Werner, Judy McKenna (Gauteng team), and Adithya Naidoo, Hlumisa Dlamuka, and Diego Rencken (College team). Well done to all the boys, parents and staff.
