THEME – PREPARING WELL
A warm welcome to our guest, Mr Jon Hoatson, President of MCOBA who will address the boys later in the assembly.
From Scripture
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.” – James 1:5
A prayer
Dear God, as we move towards the end of the year, grant us the wisdom to prepare well, the discipline to stay focused, and the courage to be proactive.
Help us to seize the opportunities and overcome the challenges.
Amen.
Preparing well
Benjamin Franklin, one of the seven key Founding Fathers who drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence (1776), said the following: “By failing to prepare, you’re preparing to fail.”
Today, we reflect on the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin, who reminds us that preparation is key to success.
The importance of Preparation
Preparation is the foundation upon which success is built. It’s the difference between achieving our goals and facing unnecessary obstacles.
Consequences of lack of Preparation
- Opportunities are missed
- Mistakes are made
- Confidence is shaken
- Failure becomes more likely
Benefits of Preparation
- Confidence grows
- Opportunities are seized
- Challenges are overcome
- Success becomes more achievable
Preparing well
- Set clear goals: Define what you want to achieve.
- Plan ahead: Anticipate challenges and opportunities.
- Develop skills: Continuously learn and improve.
- Practice discipline: Stay focused and committed.
- Review and adjust: Learn from mistakes and adapt.
Applying Preparation in daily life
- Education: Prepare for exams, research, and projects.
- Career: Develop skills, network, and build relationships.
- Personal growth: Set goals, practice self-care, and seek mentorship.
- Relationships: Communicate effectively, listen actively.
Conclusion
Benjamin Franklin’s quote reminds us that preparation is not optional; it’s essential. By preparing well, we equip ourselves for success and minimize the risk of failure.
EDUCATION
6th formers have four more days of formal school left before their final assessments commence. It is imperative that you seek the support and advice of your teachers if there are any areas in which you are still struggling. It is not too late. We, the teachers want you to obtain the best possible results in these examinations. But it is ultimately up to you!
