Maritzburg College Celebrates Excellence at 2025 Prize Giving Ceremony

Maritzburg College hosted its annual Prize Giving Ceremony on 22 January 2026, celebrating outstanding achievement from the 2025 academic year, while welcoming back a distinguished Old Collegian as guest of honour. Held in a spirit of tradition and pride, the ceremony brought together parents, staff, invited guests and pupils to recognise the hard work and commitment that define the Maritzburg College
The guest speaker for the occasion was Mr Joss Myers, Head Prefect (1998) and currently Managing Director of Barrows Africa, a global retail design and technology company working with some of the world’s leading brands.
In a deeply personal and inspiring address, Mr Myers reflected on his formative years at College and the enduring values that shaped his professional journey. He spoke passionately about the importance of teamwork, attitude, respect, initiative and resilience; qualities first nurtured within the red, black and white of Maritzburg College.
Drawing on his international business experience, Mr Myers emphasised that success in an evolving world depends not only on talent, but on character, humility and the ability to work as part of a unified team, principles he credited directly to his time at College. “Only later in life will you realise the true value of five years at College,” he told the boys. “The more you put in, the more you get out.”
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of academic awards across all forms, recognising both consistent progress and exceptional achievement.
Top academic honours for the 2025 academic year were awarded as follows:
- First in 2nd Form: D Moyo
- First in 3rd Form: KS Mkhwane
- First in 4th Form: S Bandu
- First in 5th Form: D Pillay
In addition, prizes were awarded for subject excellence across the curriculum, including Mathematics, Sciences, Languages, Humanities, Creative Arts and Technology. Numerous Merit Certificates acknowledged sustained effort and progress, reflecting the College’s commitment to recognising growth alongside top performance.
The 2025 Prize Giving Ceremony served not only as a celebration of academic distinction, but as a powerful reminder of Maritzburg College’s enduring mission: to develop young men of integrity, courage and purpose, prepared to lead and serve in an ever‑changing world.
