Assembly 17 October

THEME FOR THE WEEK:  MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS

“When I know your story, I understand your heart.”

From Scripture:

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” – Proverbs 17 v 17

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. – John 15: 12 – 13

A godly friend speaks truth into your life, even when it is difficult to hear. A true friend loves you and genuinely wants the best for you. They will tell you both the good and the bad. They will tell you when they feel that you are walking away from the Lord or if they feel that you have been walking closer with God.

A prayer:

May our lives be filled with thanksgiving and praise for your countless blessings.
Please grant us the assurance that you supply our every need through your generosity.
May grace, mercy, and peace be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Son, in truth and love.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

SPEECH DAY REFLECTION:

Speech Day was a wonderful occasion where you all played your part in acknowledging with respect our 6th formers and their academic achievements. In my address,  I focussed on  Sean Covey’s “7 Habits for Highly Effective Teens”, namely; be proactive, begin with end in mind, put first things first, think win/win, seek first to understand then to be understood, synergise and co-operate, and always sharpen the sword (review and renew).

Our Guest of Honour, Dr Erna de Lange, delivered a humorous message of advice to both parents and boys, with a reminder to strive for independence which equals freedom. Life will not be fair, so don’t expect it to be. Learn as you travel into a new way of life on a road that you have not travelled before and don’t ever be reliant on anybody for anything…. least of all for your happiness. Independence could be scary but is most fulfilling.

Mbonambi, focussed what it means to be a College boy and the five year journey the 6th form have walked together.  He thanked all the College staff for what they have done for the Class of 2022,  and encouraged the incoming matrics of 2023 to strive to always challenge the limits and give their all.

This was a truly memorable and special event for the school; thank you to everyone who contributed.

PASSING OF THE DRUM

On Friday we will hold our 11th annual Passing of the Drum ceremony naming our leadership for 2023. We look forward to this special occasion which recognises and celebrates those of our current 5th form who have been chosen to lead the school next year.

I wish you all a good week ahead
