Overview
Maritzburg College began its 7’s rugby season this weekend with the U15 and U17 teams participating in the Glenwood tournament.
It was a busy sporting weekend on the campus, as College hosted an U11/ U13 hockey festival which saw the best of the primary school hockey talent compete on our campus! The Dudley Forde Aquatic Centre was alive with kayaking action, while our soccer teams took on Glenwood.
7s Rugby
Under-17 Glenwood High School Tournament
The Under-17 rugby sevens team participated in the Glenwood High School Tournament, where they competed with commitment and determination across five matches.
In the opening fixture, the team faced a strong Glenwood side and, despite showing moments of good play, were defeated 42–24. The second match saw a positive response, with the boys producing an excellent performance to record a convincing 43–12 victory over the Michaelhouse 2nd team.
Progressing to the Cup quarterfinal, the team met Westville, who proved too strong on the day, resulting in a 22–0 defeat. The squad then regrouped in the Plate semifinal, where they displayed resilience to secure a 26–19 win against the Northwood 2nd team. In the Plate final, the boys fought hard in a closely contested encounter against Hilton but were narrowly beaten 20–14.
Overall, the tournament provided valuable experience for the team, highlighting both strengths and areas for further development.

Congratulations to our College 3 team who have won the PMB Debating League Final 2025, beating Michaelhouse,, with J Moneyvalu awarded Best Speaker.
