Theme: Respect
The theme for this week’s character education programme is the core value and core tradition as per our College pledge of RESPECT – Kuhlo-ni-shwana kabili [RESPECT IS MUTUAL]
The Urban dictionary definition of respect states: “It means valuing each other’s points of views. It means being open to being wrong. It means accepting people as they are. It means not dumping on someone because you’re having a bad day. It means being polite and kind always, because being kind to people is not negotiable. It means not dissing [act disrespectfully] people because they’re different to you. It means not gossiping about people or spreading lies.”
Confucius says “Respect yourself and others will respect you.” , which is very similar to the Spanish proverb “If you want to be respected, you must respect yourself.”
Buddha says, “You should respect each other and refrain from disputes; you should not, like water and oil, repel each other, but should, like milk and water, mingle together.”
Kuhlo-ni-shwana kabili [RESPECT IS MUTUAL] – when a person respects one another, that respect should be reciprocated. Similarly, when one helps another, that help should be reciprocated.
This is being focussed on in the character education lesson on Wednesday with the various forms :
F2; Respect for the school
F3: Respect for Self
F4; Respect for Women
F5; Respect for others and leadership
F6; Respect for one another rand the traditions of College
We need to all strive to ensure that we are as mutually respectful as possible.
“Treat people the way you want to be treated. Talk to people the way you want to be talked to. Respect is earned, not given.”
Reminder that greeting works both ways – you are greeted you respond . You see teachers, admin staff other adults you greet them first please and staff please acknowldeg the greeting. It is difficult sometime to hear clearly with masks on so pleas speak loudly.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH RECOGNITION
Mr Swart has been recognised by the DOH and School Health Services for extraordinary service and dedication in relation to Covid related matters and have presented him with a certificate.
COVID MATTERS:
I would like to congratulate all boys who participated in fixtures with DHS on the weekend and the manner in which you abided by the regulations and procedures. It is of the utmost importance that we are vigilant if we wish the school to remain open and continue with our co-curricular programme. Therefore gentlemen I am pleading with you NOT to drop your guard and to become complacent and ensure that we maintain the protocols at all times.
