Club 1863

Club 1863: Home of College Supporters

The vision and aim of Club 1863, which evolved from the Goldstones Club, is to provide a home for all College supporters. It is by its very nature INCLUSIVE of the wider College family.

Open to parents, staff, boys as well as past parents and Old Collegians, Club 1863 seeks to create and facilitate activities and events that bring the College community together in support of the school and its strategic goals and objectives. In turn, we aim to provide value to our members, by ensuring that they are informed and engaged with the school.

“Five years is just the Beginning”

It is not just your son that is joining the College family – so are you as a parent, grandparent and guardian. We encourage you to get involved in your son’s five-year journey and contribute towards building the rich legacy of our school.

As current parents and guardians, we greatly value your role in sharing the College story with prospective parents. Your authentic and real experiences help us shape and build College’s future.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

  1. Beautifying the gardens

You may have noticed some wonderful improvements to the gardens around campus recently. Key areas that have received attention include the entrance on College Road, the entrance on Princess Margaret Drive, the Chapel garden, the Coffee Box garden, and several other spaces.

This is an ongoing project aimed at enhancing the beauty of our school environment.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to 1863 committee members, Mrs Jenny Colenbrander and Mrs Tarrin Champkins – 1863 Garden Portfolio for their dedication and vision in leading the transformation of these areas.

  1. Supporters Gear

Under the expert guidance of Mr Luke Volans-1863 Merchandise Portfolio, we proudly introduced a new Maritzburg College / 1863 supporters jersey.

We continue to work closely with Mr Anand Moodley, School Shoppe Manager, to ensure that all the supporters merchandise reflects the legacy that makes College unique.

  1. Community

Our legendary Zarm Farm continues to thrive under the wonderful guidance of Mrs Julia Hackland, 1863 Zarm Farm Portfolio who ensures that at each home game, a committed group of parents show up to serve the magic that is the iconic cheese zarm.

Keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming events.

UPCOMING PROJECTS:

  1. Dusi Clean Up

Together with Maritzburg College management, key representatives from the Municipality, and the Duzi Umgeni Conservation Trust (DUCT), we are actively working on a collaborative plan to clean up the Duzi River.

This initiative forms part of a broader commitment to environmental responsibility and community partnership. We are excited about the long-term positive impact this project will have, not only on the health of the river, but also on the greater Pietermaritzburg area. Our dream is to see the start of the annual Dusi Canoe Marathon return to Camps Drift.

  1. Refurbishment of the Reception area and Staff room

A new project that we are excited to tackle is the refurbishment of the reception area and staff room.

These two key spaces play an important role in the daily life of the school. The reception area is the first point of contact for visitors, it sets the tone and first impression of the school.

The staff room, is a vital hub for teachers and support staff to connect, recharge and prepare their lessons.

  1. AB Jacksons

Much needed improvement of general facilities at the Astro are needed. We are talking to the municipality and KZN Inland hockey in this regard.
