Mr Ralph Paterson

Deputy Headmaster: Behaviour Management

Mr Ralph Paterson has vast experience at all boys boarding schools; having attended primary school as a boarder at Merchiston and high school as a boarder at St. Charles. He went on to complete a BSc at the UKZN, and later a PGCE through Unisa while teaching.

Ralph has taught at co-ed and boys only schools both private and state. In 2017 he co-authored the ACE it Agricultural Science study guide, in collaboration with others. In 2019 he and his family returned to Pietermaritzburg to take up a position at Maritzburg College, a school he was familiar with through family and friends. Ralph is married to Charmaine who works in admissions at College and has two daughters, Abigail and Zarah.

During his time at College he has taught Life Science and Agricultural Science, been Subject Head of Life Science, Housemaster of Snow House and Head of Department of Behaviour Management. He has also coached Cricket, Rugby and Squash and is currently a boarder master in Clark house.

Ralph’s passion at College is to see young men achieve at the pinnacle of their abilities.  He aims to provide a safe, secure and nurturing school environment in which young men feel free to express themselves.
