This week we announced our Maritzburg College School Governing Body for 2023, which is composed of elected and co-opted members from our parent, staff, and learner community.
College’s School Governing Body aims to ensure that our school fulfils its mission, vision, and strategic goals and is governed in a way that is in the best interest of all its stakeholders. Our SGB provides valuable support in strategic and financial planning and decision-making.

We want to make special mention of, and introduce our nine parent representatives of this important body; we are very grateful and appreciative of these people who give freely of their time and experience to support College.
This year’s SGB parent representatives include:
Mr Steve Colenbrander who serves as the Chairman of the SGB. Steve is a Chartered Accountant with considerable experience in school management and Governing Body dynamics (over 20 years). He is also well versed in governance and finance issues. Steve shared that his decision to be involved in the Governing Body is to “put back” and contribute to society, specifically focused on the development and “launch” process for young men.
Dr Amon Kasambala is the Vice-chairman of the SGB, with skills in management, HR, fundraising and transformation. A very eloquent speaker, Amon also has valuable experience in coaching, mentoring and facilitation. Amon has been involved in school governance for several years and served as Director for a number of corporate businesses and NGOs. He is committed to supporting the school through In whatever way he can and provides valuable guidance when it comes to social awareness and discipline.
Mrs Tabitha Lolliot is currently the SGB Treasurer and holds a senior management position in the medical field. Describing herself as a business leader in the community, Tabitha brings valuable business insight and leadership skills to the SGB. Tabitha says she has a keen eye for identifying business growth opportunities while focusing on efficiencies and systems to offer high quality at low economic cost.
Mr Craig Mackenzie is a passionate OC who has served the school in several leadership roles over many years. A highly successful businessman and entrepreneur, Craig has extensive experience in developing businesses and building brands and chairs the Board and the Marketing and Fundraising sub-committee. Craig shared that he feels indebted to College for the ethos that the school instilled in him, which has proved invaluable, and he is committed to contributing towards the development of all our boys.
Mr Angus Findlay is a practising attorney who has provided legal advice to numerous schools. He brings strong interpersonal, leadership as well as management and organisational experience to the SGB. A lifelong “Maritzburgian”, OC and parent, Angus is deeply motivated to assist and support the school.
Mr Hermann Goslett is an OC who has is currently Chairman of the Boarder Parents Committee and has also served as a director for the College Foundation. Hermann describes himself as having College intrinsically part of his DNA. A strong advocate of servant leadership and with extensive management, business development, networking and marketing capabilities, Hermann is determined to give back to an institution that helped shape his life and left an indelible print!
Mr Andrew Pratt is also a proud OC, who brings a number of years of school governance experience as well as valuable business and management skills to our SGB. Andrew serves on the Goldstones Parents Club committee and shared that he has a passion for College and for serving the school.
Mr Ruan van Rooyen is an OC who joined College as a boarder in his 4th form year. His grandfather, W.K. van Rooyen, was head boy in 1924. Ruan played 1st XV rugby in 5th and 6th form before going on to study law. He is currently an advocate and has practised in commercial law and dispute resolution for the past 21 years. Ruan is committed to serving on the SGB as a parents’ representative and seeks to serve the parents and the school in any way he can, as he says he is ‘here to help’. Ruan brings valuable legal expertise to the body.
Mr Rob Warr, an OC of 1992, is co-owner of a family construction business, and involved in all aspects of the business. He brings a wide range of skills to the SGB as well as valuable experience in school governance. Rob aims to assist specifically with facilities development at College and chairs the Facilities sub-committee. Rob says he is committed to giving back to College and ensuring the school maintains its high standards and level of greatness for future generations.
