Assembly 27 February 2023

ASSEMBLY: COMMITMENT

From Scripture:

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.’ – Proverbs 16:3

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.’ – Psalm 37:5

A prayer:

Dear Lord, grant us the peace of mind that you are always there for us, to support us fulfilling our commitments in all that we do with your guidance and blessing.

Last week I spoke to you about the Core Value of INTEGRITY. Today I would like to talk to you about another core value that of COMMITMENT.

Thought for the Week
“Do you know what it means to say that you are committed? If you did, you might not say it as often as you do.”

There are NO shortcuts to success on the sports field, but hard focussed work, determination and commitment. There are no shortcuts to reaching the goals that you have set for yourself.

Gary Player legendary golf player’s quote is well-known: “The harder you work, the luckier you get.”

Over the past six weeks you have heard a number of names of boys who have excelled in the sports arena in a various codes. These boys have all had to work very hard to achieve the success that they have and their coaches have also spent considerable time assisting them in reaching their sporting goals. Collectively they have shown incredible passion and commitment to getting there.

Over the past week, our athletes, golfers, 1st XI cricketer, basketballers , cyclists, chess, canoeists have all excelled. Whilst we recognise the top performers, I need to remind the vast majority of you to meet your commitments regarding sports practices and matches, and to always give of your best in all that you do – that is what College is renowned for. College boys never give up and are totally committed.

This weekend sees our final summer fixture v our neighbours SCC – Let see 100% commitment at practices and then on match day In basketball the two teams are ranked SCC no1 and College No2 – lets knock them off their perch .

I want to thank all the boys who have practiced and trained diligently and the coaches for their efforts keeping their players focussed through the summer months. It is important that as we approach the end of the summer sports programme that you acknowledge your coaches, managers, supporters and parents who have supported you and encouraged you all the way. Please do so over the next week or two.

As from next week we move into our winter programme and we expect the same commitment to all these activities. You attend all practices and matches and give nothing but your best. If you are dropped form a team or done make the team you think you should be in, DON’T GIVE UP but remain committed to prove the coaches had made an error of judgement and you are promoted and or reinstated.

The core value of commitment applies to all our staff as well i.e. academic, support, SAN, BE, dining hall. The staff members are committed to teaching you daily, educating you, coaching you, feeding you, attending to your needs  and mentoring you over your five years at College.

Your parents, grandparents or guardians are committed to ensuring that you have the best education possible, so that you can develop into the best version of yourself and that your goals are realised.
