Goldstones Club closes off the year in style

Our official College Supporters club, the Goldstones Club, recently held two events for our parents.

The first of these was a lunch hosted by the school, to recognise and thank the College mums for their valuable contributions over the past year.  Held in the Victoria Hall, this year’s event was well attended, and our #RedBlackWhite mums welcomed the opportunity to catch up with each other, as well as relax and enjoy excellent refreshments thanks to Granny Macs.

Entertainment for the day was provided by our own Director of Music and Performing Arts, Mr Simon Stickells, who sang a number of songs for the guests.

This year’s event had a sad note in that many of the ladies attending are 6th form mums, and this will see the end of their 5 year journey at College. We extend our very sincere appreciation to all our mums for the hard work they do in supporting our school, and especially to those whose sons are leaving the school – you will be missed! In particular, College would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mrs Joanne Hoyle who has given many years of service to the school, not least in managing our legendary “Zarm Farm”. Senior Deputy Head: Mr Ingo Talke present Joanne with a gift of appreciation from the school.

The second event was the last Parents’ Cocktail Party of the year, to which all parents and staff were invited. Held down on Goldstones in the Kent Pavilion, the evening was attended by a small but enthusiastic group of parents. A focus of the evening was to highlight the very real risks associated with drugs and substance abuse for today’s youth, and in particular teenage boys. This was addressed in a short presentation by our school psychologist, Mrs Cassidy Griffiths. Chairman of the Goldstones Club, Mr Richard Quin, then highlighted a project the school is considering, which is the Narcotics Dog initiative. This is aimed at providing dogs and handlers to regular check and monitor for drugs on campus. It is hoped that the Goldstones Club will be able to secure funding support towards this valuable project in the future. The evening ended with some great lucky draw prizes.
